Our Investments

JGC’s long-term approach is reflected in our public equity and real estate investments, some of which were acquired prior to the Great Depression of the 1930s. In addition to substantial holdings in public companies and real estate, we actively invest in privately-owned businesses. This is an important part of our overall portfolio strategy.

We are interested in local and regionally based companies that are profitable, well-managed and make an important contribution to the community. Such contributions can take many forms, including employment of workers, civic involvement, ethical and responsible stewardship, and delivery of valuable products and services.

Investing for the very long term is imbedded in our investment discipline. We are not obsessed with the quarter-by-quarter or even year-over-year performance of their investments. This makes us ideal partners for businesses and owners in need of patient, supportive capital. Unlike other capital sources like lenders, hedge funds and private equity funds, we can remain invested in an asset for generations.
