A community’s social vibrancy depends in large part on the generous support of its citizens. Joshua Green’s descendants and the Joshua Green Corporation share a strong sense of civic pride and a commitment to active support of their Seattle and King County community through philanthropy. This belief prompted the formation of the Joshua Green Foundation in 1963, with the purpose of aiding the community through grants that reflect our values.
Support of Capital Campaign for major redevelopment of the Seattle Waterfront.
Ongoing support of Plymouth Housing providing adults facing homelessness throughout King County with the stable housing and services.
Annual support in the pursuit of a more equitable community by addressing urgent food, housing, and educational needs in King County.
Annual support of the distribution to more than 370 food banks, meal programs, and high-need schools throughout King County.
Significant contributor to the new Central Library with its many innovative features, including a distinctive diamond-shaped exterior of glass and steel.
Longtime supporter of The 5th Avenue Theatre. It is the single largest arts employer in the Pacific Northwest creating 800 jobs annually for artists, technicians, and craftspeople.
Thank you for your request for funding from the Joshua Green Foundation. The principle focus of the Foundation is major capital campaigns of non-profit, 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt organizations headquartered and operating in the Seattle/King county area. These requests should not occur more than once every five years and no more than one percent (.01) of the private portion of the capital campaign will be funded. We do not fund national or international organizations. Minor capital needs such as computer and telephone equipment will not be supported.
The Foundation’s funding priority is private secondary and higher education in King County. It does not fund primary schools’ capital campaigns. The board monitors the shifting major needs of the greater Seattle community. It has supported various arts organizations’ moves to new venues downtown, the redevelopment of the downtown waterfront, and food and low-income housing for those in our community experiencing food and housing instability. The Foundation contributes annually to the United Way and to Northwest Harvest. Other operating requests are considered only in the event of unpredictable and one-time cash flow declines.
It does not fund individual requests, endowments, scholarships, conferences, seminars, pilots, start up or seed money projects, nor does it underwrite special event programs, concerts, videos, books or personnel positions. Notwithstanding those criteria, the Foundation encourages and supports major efforts in the not-for-profit sector anywhere in the United States by Green family members.
If your request falls within the above guidelines, please complete the attached application and submit either online, email ([email protected]), or mail.
If your request does not fall within the above guidelines, our apologies for being unable to support your worthwhile project and we wish you success in your fundraising efforts.
The JG Foundation Board meets quarterly to review all grant requests received during the prior three months. Meetings are held in February, May, August , and November. Grantees will be notified via mail our determination to each request within a week following each meeting.
